About Me

(February 22, 2007)

Background

I was born in 1975 in Ann Arbor, MI, which was a great place to grow up. In 1993, I graduated from Community High School, an alternative high school. I spent the next four years at Dartmouth College, where I was a member of Phi Tau Coeducational Fraternity. I graduated in 1997 with a BA in computer science. For the past ten years, I have lived in the Boston area.

Now

I live in Arlington, MA with one roommate, Scott. In many ways, Arlington reminds me of Ann Arbor, which is nice. I work as a computer programmer for a small internet company in Newton, primarily writing Perl and SQL.

Interests

A few of my interests...

Science Fiction
SF is by far my favorite genre of writing. (I also enjoy mysteries and humor.) I have a large collection of Science Fiction anthologies from decades past. My favorite authors include David Brin (Earth, the Uplift trilogies), Neil Gaiman (Neverwhere, American Gods), and Connie Willis (To Say Nothing of the Dog, Doomsday Book).

Movies
I enjoy most any kind of film, except maybe horror. My favorite movies are The Princess Bride, Singin' in the Rain, The Fifth Element, and Harvey. I go to the Brattle Theatre in Harvard Square frequently.

Digital Photography
A few years ago, I acquired a Canon PowerShot G2 digital camera. I've taken many photos since then, including lots of shots of friends, nature, and interesting buildings. Some of them can be seen on my photos page.

Games
I belong to Unity Games, a loosely-knit group dedicated to playing board games in the Eastern Massachusetts area. There is an amazing variety of fun and involving games, beyond what you might have played growing up.
